Facade Rehabilitation
The façade is often a historic building’s most visible feature and the defining element of its character. A beautifully restored building can inspire pride throughout the community. Façade rehabilitation is one of the most rewarding aspects of historic preservation because the whole community can experience the results.
Years of deterioration or design deficiencies may make structural improvements necessary. These can include replacing or treating rusted ferrous metal—a process known as iron jacking—and installing noncorrosive anchors or fasteners; repairing cracked or spalled materials with in-kind materials; or replacing damaged, heavy ornamentation with lighter GFRC or FRP elements.
Spectra Company has successfully rehabilitated hundreds of historic façades made from a wide range of materials, including masonry, stone, terra-cotta, adobe, plaster, metal, and decorative cast stone. Its work also includes restoring doors and windows of all styles. Façade services include cleaning, materials restoration, door and window restoration, decorative ornament fabrication, and restoration of previously altered or damaged elements. Spectra is lead-certified and a glazing contractor, making it a one-stop resource for historic façade restoration.
